Berlin facts
Berlin is the second-largest metropolitan city in Europe after
London. After having been divided by the Berlin Wall for decades,
unified Berlin was reinstated as Germany's capital in 1993 and seat of
government in 1999 (succeeding Bonn as the political centre of the
Federal Republic of Germany).
In the time since 1998 ninety-five percent of the German
Ministries have been relocated to Berlin. At the same time, over 1,500
cultural, political and, more importantly, economic lobby groups have
now been established in the new German capital.
